Announcing tournament details for the League of Legends Intel® Extreme Masters World Championship Katowice
See how the League of Legends matches will be played out in Katowice.

Season 11 of the Intel Extreme Masters is reaching its conclusion with the great finale, the IEM World Championship, once again taking place in Katowice, Poland. This year, the League of Legends IEM World Championship will get an entire standalone weekend on February 25-26 with the matches taking place in the Spodek arena.


  • Eight teams
  • Two groups of four
  • Top two teams of each group advance to the playoffs

The first group stage matches will be played backstage on February 22-23. We will move to the Spodek arena on Saturday, February 25th with the final matches of the group stage which will determine who will continue in the playoffs. On Sunday, February 26th, the arena will host the semifinals and grand final.

The detailed tournament format will be as follows:

All of the participating teams have received direct invitations to the event. We will begin announcing the first teams next week.

Prize distribution

The teams will be fighting for a share of a US$150,000 prize pool which will be distributed as follows:

  • First place:$70,000
  • Second place:$30,000
  • Third/fourth place:$15,000
  • Fifth/sixth place: $7,000
  • Seventh/eighth place: $3,000

We are thrilled to once again witness some world-class League of Legends action at the IEM World Championship. Last year, we saw exciting matches and fantastic plays and this year, we will take it to the next level as League of Legends will take over the Spodek arena for an entire weekend (please note that there will be no EXPO at the time).
