Intel® Extreme Masters returns with its 34th StarCraft® II event to be hosted in Shanghai
IEM heads back to China where the very best SC2 players will compete for their share of a $25,000 prize pool and WCS points

We are happy to announce that Intel® Extreme Masters is joining in on this year's WCS circuit, once again returning to Shanghai, China, to host a 16-player tournament in StarCraft® II on July 27-30. The players will compete for their share of a $25,000 prize pool, WCS points, and the title of IEM Shanghai 2017 champion on the showfloor of ChinaJoy, China's largest gaming and digital entertainment exhibition.

INVITES

Four players have received and accepted direct invitations to the event:

  • Stats: Earned second place at both IEM Gyeonggi 2016 and IEM Katowice 2017
  • Innovation: Won first place at IEM Gyeonggi 2016
  • TY: Won first place at IEM Katowice 2017
  • SoO: Placed top eight at IEM Gyeonggi 2016 and most recently placed second in the 2017 Global StarCraft II League Season 1

Invitations were based on WCS Korea 2017 points, which started accumulating after the WCS 2016 Global Finals.

TOURNAMENT FORMAT

The 16-player tournament at IEM Shanghai 2017 will begin with a double-elimination best-of-three group stage, consisting of four groups. From there, the quarterfinals and semifinals will be best-of-five, leading up to a best-of-seven grand finals.

Prize Pool Breakdown

TOTAL: $25,000

  • 1st place: $10,000
  • 2nd place: $4,000
  • 3rd-4th place: $2,000
  • 5th-8th place: $1,000
  • 9th-16th place: $400

WCS Point Breakdown
TOTAL: 7,500

  • 1st place: 1,500
  • 2nd place: 1,050
  • 3rd-4th place: 675
  • 5th-8th place: 450
  • 9th-16th place: 225

QUALIFIERS

The remaining 12 players will be determined through a series of best-of-three online qualifiers, taking place this June. Any deciding matches will be played as a best-of-five series.

Chinese Qualifiers (Server: China) - Two spots available

  • June 22nd - Chinese Qualifier (Day 1, Open stage) Open single-elimination bo3 bracket with four players advancing to the closed Chinese Qualifier.
  • June 23rd - Chinese Qualifier (Day 2, Final stage) Closed double-elimination bo3 bracket with two players advancing to IEM Shanghai 2017.

Global Qualifiers (Server: Korea) - Ten spots available

  • June 27th - Global Qualifier (Day 1, Open stage) Open single-elimination bo3 bracket with eight players advancing to the closed Global Qualifier.
  • June 28th - Global Qualifier ( Day 2, Open stage) Open single-elimination bo3 bracket with eight players advancing to the closed Global Qualifier.
  • June 29th - Global Qualifier (Day 3, Final stage) Closed double-elimination bo3 bracket with ten players advancing to IEM Shanghai 2017.
